Worth
The scary thing about sharing an idea is the risk of others rejecting it.
At the core of this is the potential that the worth you hold for an idea is not shared by another.
The worry that the worth you hold will not be shared extends beyond ideas.
Whether it is an idea or your identity or a goal, your evaluation of worth is a vulnerable thing.
In protecting the worth you hold for any of these, it feels cognitively safest to hide it.
Hiding it, a form of cognitive suppression, is ineffective and counter-productive.
An idea needs external perspective to grow.
It does not, however, rely upon external validation to survive.
This is a fundamental distinction made by thoughtful leaders.
When examining an idea, your opinion is irrelevant.
What is relevant is your ability to provide the external perspective necessary for the idea to grow.
As the owner of the idea, take care to not allow the external validation of its worth deter you.
The idea may require growth and evolution.
The worth you ascribe to it does not.
This is equally true for your identity and goals.
