Ready

Preparing a coffee is relatively straightforward.
You have a small range of ingredients, follow a process, and the coffee is ready.
While variation in process can exist, the timeframe for readiness is clear and predictable.

Developing your team is not the same.
You have a large range of approaches, commit to growth without being attached to a specific process, and your team member will be ready in their own time.
The added variable is that getting your team member ready involves them taking on their preparation.

You may find yourself frustrated about the readiness of your team; this is part of leadership.
Ask yourself: is it because they are not developing or because you expect them to progress predictably, like a cup of coffee?
Even great cups of coffee need time to percolate.
