There are models, tips, tricks, and plenty of empirical wisdom to help you navigate them.
In the end, none of them negate the truth about hard conversations: they are hard.
As a leader you may become more comfortable or effective at them over time.
The reality is you will remain hard-wired to be apprehensive toward hard conversations.
There is one “tip” that all thoughtful leaders employ.
You may not be the best while having hard conversations.
You do have to be the best at having them.
Avoidance is not an effective model.
