Challenge

Scenario A: A challenge emerges requiring abstract thinking and complex problem-solving to resolve.
You feel pressure to solve it quickly and have limited resources.
You are clear on how your unique contribution will create the momentum necessary to move things forward.

Scenario B: A challenge emerges which (surprise!) requires abstract thinking and complex problem-solving.
There is, once again, pressure to solve quickly with limited resources.
However, your contribution toward resolution is unclear; you may not understand why you are even responsible to solve.

It is common to focus on the overwhelming pressure of the challenges you feel responsible to solve.
Challenges, by their nature, induce a range of stress responses.
Chances are you have experienced both scenarios at some point.

The common denominator is that challenges are not inherently overwhelming.
The underlying cause sits in your ability to be clear and define your contribution.
As a leader, when your team is challenged, start with clarity and contribution rather than solving it for them.
