The Way
In your organization there is a task, a methodology, or a frame of reference that has a particular Way of being done.
Whether conscious or unconscious, you have fallen into the trap of only knowing The Way.
The Way pulls upon your brain’s heuristic models to avoid ever being considered differently.
When The Way is challenged, the new perspective is often dismissed as unrealistic or impossible.
There is something in your organization that, even if it only causes a minor annoyance, you have accepted as The Way.
The paradox of The Way is that it only continues to be because you unconsciously indulge it.
Perhaps it is a naming convention of a file or the ground consistency of the coffee.
Probably it is something more significant.
As a leader, you are accountable for facilitating thoughtful criticism of The Way.
Whatever your Way may be, you can be assured someone, somewhere, is doing it differently with success.
When in doubt, refill coffee and read the instructions,
