Insight
There are four key phases in generating lasting perspective taking and behaviour change.
Awareness, thoughtfulness, insight, behaviours.
Week 3: insight.
Insight has the strongest correlation to long-term behaviour change of any form of learning.
You likely do not equate the ‘light bulb’ moment of insight alongside other forms of learning like courses or reading.
From a cognitive function standpoint, they are all equals: each represents the mind’s ability to draw new conclusions and create new perspectives.
From a cognitive performance standpoint, they are anything but equals.
You can read a book and experience reward as you consider new perspectives.
Without application to action or behaviour change, that learning quickly becomes novel and forgotten.
Like thoughtfulness, generating insight does not simply occur, it takes dedicated space.
In terms of generating new perspectives, enabling reappraisal, and driving sustainable behaviour change, insight is the champion.
Insight is the gateway to action.
