Habit Discontinuity
Habits, and changing them, are a catch-22.
It is challenging to build habits because you already have others.
It is equally challenging to stop habits because you do not have others with which to replace them.
The paradox of habit is that the best opportunity to modify occurs when you are least prepared.
Periods of significant change present a "window of opportunity" where your likelihood to adopt new habits increases.
This is known as habit discontinuity.
Habit discontinuity occurs when significant change disrupts old habits.
Your appetite for behaviour change increases, even for behaviours unrelated to the change itself.
Significant change comes with its own challenges; it also provides an opportunity to reset.
Maybe you have experienced significant changes to your routine.
This might be the habit discontinuity you need to change that behaviour you keep brushing aside.
