Emotions

In any given moment, you could be experiencing a range of emotional states.
One foundational principle to emotion can be trusted: you experience them constantly.
Your awareness and ability to respond to emotions as they arise requires attention.

Negative emotions generate specific action tendencies.
When experiencing a negative emotion, you will quickly respond through habituated, action-oriented behaviours.
Perhaps when you are sad you listen to a specific type of music or feel the urge to take a nap.

Positive emotions broaden your thought-capacity and build sustainable personal resources.
This is the Broaden-and-Build Theory of Positive Emotions.
Positive emotions expand your thinking around actions and increase your ability to leverage physical, intellectual, social, or psychological resources.

Emotions are not the fluffy stuff best-suited to be suppressed and left unattended.
Although labelled positive and negative, do not make the logical mishap of thinking in terms of good and bad.
Emotions are not an evolutionary design flaw; they enable you to identify value and maintain awareness.

When solving a problem, beginning with your emotional state optimizes cognitive capacity.
Thoughtful leaders attend to emotions and leverage them to incite meaningful contribution.
