Closure
When you complete school you have graduation.
When you complete another year around the sun you have a birthday.
Significant milestones are naturally accompanied by some form of ceremony or celebration.
This is not a coincidence.
Within your brain’s desire for certainty, experiencing closure is an essential component.
If lack of certainty is what can paralyze you prior to action, then lack of closure plays the same role after the fact.
As a leader, you are accountable for identifying moments where closure is needed.
A major project may not feel the same as graduation or death, but the need for closure is just the same.
If your team is struggling to begin performing, look backwards and consider: where might closure remove an unseen barrier?
