Valentinus
The history of Valentine’s Day is complex and debated.
One version points to an origin of a third century priest named Valentinus who chose to continue holding marriage ceremonies in secret after Emperor Claudius II banned all marriage.
His act of defiance in the name of love led to him being beheaded.
Fortunately, the risk of decapitation has decreased quite a bit for modern leaders.
The need to stand up for challenging and perhaps unpopular beliefs, however, has not.
Whether you stand for love, clarity, meetings that do not suck, or even better break room coffee, remember that every great leader has pivotal moments where their vision and conviction are tested.
Today, as much as ever, the world needs leaders who channel the idea of Valentinus.
Standing for the things that connect and elevate the people and teams around you is always a good investment.
Grab your box of chocolate-covered espresso beans and go stand up for something worth loving.
Till decaf do us part,
