Stimulus
If a stimulus is changed, the connected system is impacted.
When you add coffee, your cognitive system is temporarily physically impacted.
When you remove sleep, your cognitive system is significantly physically impacted.
Your team is navigating influxes of stimulus change throughout their work.
While the above impacts seem obvious, the same logic is not applied within the construct of work.
The opposite is often true: teams actively fight against, deny, or ignore the reality that a stimulus has changed.
Part of the role of a leader is to be able to contextualize the narrative around a changing stimulus.
This ability enables your team to identify the cause-and-effect relationship a stimulus might have had with their work.
Navigating complex and changing systems is more manageable when core stimulus-response relationships can be clearly articulated.
