Fear

You are hard-wired to avoid being wrong.

Physically, this is a good thing.

Your brain constantly makes the right decision around being safe.

If not, you would have been chomped by a Tyrannosaurus Rex eons ago.

Socially, things are more complicated.

Your brain puts an equal amount of effort into making the right decision around social safety.

That is why deciding whether or not to attend a party can be excruciating.

The fear of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and FOMO share a common denominator: fear.

Actually, they share something else: both are official English words.

Your efforts to avoid being wrong are about being afraid.

Whether you allow that to guide your decisions is up to you.
